Most large wind turbines are delivered with conical tubular towers which are manufactured in sections of 18 to 21 meter with flanges at either side.
We manufacture towers for wind turbines by rolling steel plates into a conical sub-sections. It is a highly skilled job to achieve the conical shape since the tension (pressure) of the steel rollers has to be different at the two sides in order to make the plate bend properly. Towers are assembled from these smaller conical sub-sections which are cut and rolled into the right shape and then welded together.
We are manufacturing sections for the towers to be used for turbines having capacity upto 2.1 MW. These sections have plate thickness varying from 32 mm to 10 mm and length of 21 meter. We have installed capacity to produce sections weighing 500 MT per month. These towers are subject to the third party inspections by Tata Projects Limited.
